Luster Leaf Soil Test Meter & Kit Index

I’m often asked the difference between and soil test METER and soil a test KIT.  Simply put–a soil test METER let’s you determine IF you have a problem. It will let you know if your moisture, light, pH or NPK is out of range of where it should be.

A soil test KIT will allow you to determine to a very accurate degree how and what you may need to do if the soil test meter indicates a problem.

The moisture indication is pretty straight forward–if it’s dry you add water. If it’s ok, you do nothing. If it’s too moist, you back off watering.

For light—you’ll need to correct a problem if there is one.

pH—-I consider this the basis for any soil test. If a soil’s pH is out of balance it has a direct effect on the plant’s ability to absorb and use nutrients (NPK) Whether it’s too high (alkaline) or if it’s too low (acidic) it NEEDS to be corrected first.

NPK–amending an NPK imbalance can be a bit trying and can take time. Taking time and amending rather slowly is a good thing. The one thing you do not want to do is over do it—it’s both a waste of time and your hard earned $$.
