This is one of those flower plants that seems to grow about anywhere under almost any condition. Somewhat unpredictable in color because it so readily cross-pollinates and this is one of the things that make it so interesting. Combine that with the very unusual seed pods and you have something many of your neighbors will be wanting in their garden.

GERMINATION: 10-14 days at 60-65ºF (16-18ºC).

CULTURE: Outdoors (recommended) – When soil temps. reach 60ºF (16ºC). Fall sow where winters are mild. Indoors – 4-6 weeks before last frost directly into packs or containers;

Sensitive to root disturbance. Sow 3-4 times every 2-3 weeks early in season for continuous flower/pod production.

LIGHT/SOIL: Full sun; average, well-drained soil.

Average water needs. Water regularly but do not overwater.
SPACING: 6-9″.
USE: Fresh or dried cut flower, borders, flower arrangements.
HARVEST: Fresh – buds fully colored or pods have begun to develop.

Propagation Methods:
From seed; direct sow outdoors in fall
From seed; winter sow in vented containers, cold-frame or unheated greenhouse
From seed; sow indoors before last frost
From seed; direct sow after last frost

The flowers are good for flower beds and cutting. Seedpods, fresh or dry, are used in flower arrangements. In the garden, plants are often allowed to self-sow.

The buds and flowers make beautiful cut flower arrangements. The flowers last up to 4 days in plain water.
